The Snow Queen (New York: LUNA-Worldwide Library, 2008) is the fourth book in Mercedes Lackey‘s Five Hundred Kingdoms series. It is a delightful meta-fairy tale. (As a prefix, meta- can mean “more comprehensive : transcending” as in metaphysics (“meta-“). I call it that because the novel is about a “fairy godmother” who manipulates people and Tradition to make the tales turn out right.
I wish I’d started reading the books in order, but I’ll go back to the first one now and read the rest of them:
- The Fairy Godmother
- One Good Knight
- Fortune’s Fool
- The Snow Queen
- The Sleeping Beauty
- Beauty and the Werewolf
Beauty and the Werewolf is scheduled for release next month.
Until I was just looking over her bibliography, I hadn’t realized there were so many of Lackey’s novels that I haven’t read.
